Types of Magnets

 Types of Magnets

Magnets are solid objects that attract iron or steel and the generate a force that extends into a magnetic field. There are three main types of magnets: temporary, permanent, and electromagnets. Temporary magnets become magnetized in the presence of a magnetic field and loose their magnetism gradually when the magnetic field is removed. Examples of temporary magnets include paper clips. Permanent magnets do not easily lose their magnetic and may be naturally-occurring or chemical compounds. Ceramic-like material is an example of a permanent magnet. Electromagnets are created by running an electrical current though a coil or metal core, and the energized coil creates a magnetic field.

Ferrite magnet, which is a permanent magnet, is much weaker than neodymium, and are made of iron oxide combined with a metallic element, exhibiting ferromagnetic properties and being resistant to demagnetization. Neodymium, which is also a permanent one, is made from an alloy of iron and boron, and is known for their high energy density and magnetic strength, making them the strongest permanent magnet used for electric motors and generators.

Just like stated in our introduction, this topic contains everyday materials used in our houses, at work, and during recreation time.  For example, ferrite magnets are used in speakers when we put our playlist with our friends. Electromagnets are used in metal detectors every time you go on a trip. And do not tell me you have not seen permanent magnets when you visit your grandma's refrigerator and see a variety of magnets in the front!
